Beningbrough Hall is a Grade 1-listed building, and the works were a major challenge to both us and the main contractors. We had to balance their numerous joinery works with our roofing works. We have a heritage team who relish such a challenge and the client, the Surveyors and the National Trust were we are proud to say delighted with the finished results. The works included the removal of all existing coverings, then renewal of the Code 6 and 7 box gutters, and the Renewal of the Slated roofs in Penryn Slate, Westmorland and Natural Sand Stone. This was to ensure the new roof would mirror the construction of the old existing structure.

This is a building of great historical importance to the area, dating back over 1000 years. We were delighted to be invited by the English Heritage Architects to be involved in its refurbishment. The roof was covered in York clay, handmade peg tiles, and the ridge and hips were handmade clay hog’s back. As there was a shortfall once the roof was stripped we had to involve Sandtoft Weinerberger. They managed to match the originals very closely. The project is one we can be very proud to be involved with. It’s not every day you are asked to work on such a historic icon.

Locally this council office is a building of great historical interest with some impressive features. The project was awarded to Hobson and Porters, and involved extensive stonework repairs, repointing, new cast rainwater gutters and a re-roof of all elevations, including the lead box gutters, valleys and cupolas. We involved Sandtoft in the production of crested ridges and bespoke, purpose-made hips to suite the individual elevations. The logistics were challenging due to it being an occupied and used building, and the works were carried out over the winter months. Despite the challenges, East Riding Council were delighted with the end results.

This project involved the roofing of 30 high-end detached properties in a prestigious post code area. Having worked for the housebuilder for many years, we were pleased to be involved with the roofing of the properties in a combination of Rosemary tiles, pan tiles and Welsh slate. The roof designs were a feature in the overall scheme which set this site aside from typical properties. All properties were soon snapped up.

With this project, our client had been tasked with providing portable accommodation with sustainable green roof finish. They required TorchSafe underlay and high performance root bar cap sheet. We involved Icopal BMI in the design, and then finished the roofs with bespoke sedum pods, laid on a protection membrane and with aluminium restraints. We were delighted with the finish, and this type of construction will help with reintroduce nature to our industrial sites.

This is a local listed building of great historical interest, and for many reasons was one of the most challenging projects we have carried out. The project involved the stripping and retaining of the existing slates and ridges. We had to insulate the structure including vapour barriers, vapour permeable membranes and counter battens. We re-slated the various elevations including the curved roofs over the court house and formed the lead cladding to the dormers, flag poles, man anchor system and mop rolls, all in Code 6 lead. Then came the biggest challenge, which was to reuse all the existing crested ridges, including forming stainless steel support trays, to protect the leadwork from the mortar pointing.

With our flat roofing arm we often do school projects around the country. We are often tasked with fixing the underlays to portable constructions, then once shipped to site we are able to complete the capping membrane. This was a project we recently completed in Dartford. It formed many hundreds of square metres of new classrooms for the School, in a very short space of time due to the modular construction methods.

This was a complex refurbishment project, involving the re-roofing of numerous chalets on South Bay in Scarborough. Over the decades they been left to deteriorate, and in conjunction with the main contractor we re-roofed around twenty structures in a combination of plain tile, shingles, slate and single ply. A very varied project which was both challenging and enjoyable, and the finished gardens are a picture of design and excellence, which will give local Scarborough people and holidaymakers enjoyment (we hope!) for many years to come.

This iconic structure on the Westwood dates back hundreds of years, and over the decades its lead roof and structure had collapsed. The main contractor and architect tasked us with helping to design and relay the new Code 6 lead roof, including the bays, internal gutters and drainage. Access was challenging, with a complete scaffolding to the whole of the building. The main contractor organised a 17-metre tall telehandler to lift the lead to roof level. We were very pleased with that, as it saved a few bad backs

This building in Hull city centre is a beautiful old building, with many unique architectural features inside and out. With many years of neglect the parapets were causing some issues with damp, as well as brick and stonework deterioration. We were tasked by the architects to clad the parapets and sills to prevent any future issues. The project was a challenge for our lead specialists, with all the different sizes and configurations. We needed to support perimeter drips with stainless steel formers to maintain a straight, true line at the edges. We were very pleased with the end result.

This is one of our largest ever projects, and when we arrived after a Christmas break in January, we were greeted with a roof comprising of over 240,000 tiles which had to be stripped and re-tiled, along with the leadwork to the bell towers. However, as ever our guys got stuck in to the task, and within 5 months we had completely transformed the building which was occupied throughout. We feel if we can tackle this, we can tackle anything!

This was a project with many challenges, not least of which was its size and the fact that we had to complete while it was in use and occupied. We were asked to re-slate the ageing roof and upgrade/recover the flat roof, including redesigning falls and increasing insulation levels. Despite some horrendous weather conditions during the process, we achieved their goal and handed back a building which should be good for a further 50 years. A fitting end-result for "the home of Golf England".

We were asked to tender for the complete re-roof of this school By East Riding Council, and were to be successful in securing the contract. It had additional sentimental value, as colleague’s children had previously attended this school. We re-slated the pitched roofs and renewed all the lead details. We re-roofed the flat areas, upgrading the insulation and renewing all the roof lights with new state of the art insulated versions. The project was completed over the summer holidays and the school staff could not have been more helpful. I suspect they were so pleased to have a building with a beautiful slate and single ply roof, which now met updated regulations.
